Synthetic patient data are AI-generated data sets that replicate the statistical properties of real data without containing any personal information. They enable research to be carried out with complete protection of privacy. The University of Bern, the Faculty of Medicine and the Inselspital are driving this topic forward, with the Synthetic Data Day on 27 May 2024 as a prelude.
The programme can be found here.
The opening lecture was given by Matthias Templ.
He spoke about the importance of synthetic data for research, but also about the challenges associated with the creation and use of synthetic data.
Murat Sariyar from the SwissAnon team spoke about Comparing LLMs and GANs for Tabular Data Generation
Also the presentation Is Synthetic Data a good privacy technology? by Theresa Stadler was very well received.
